Brooksbank Elementary School, North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
In November 2015, I was chosen to travel to Vancouver, Canada to undertake 3 weeks of professional placement at Brooksbank Elementary School through Deakin University's Global Experience Program. This experience was extremely valuable for my development as an educator, challenging myself to become immersed in a new curriculum, culture, schooling system and teaching philosophies. |
While at Brooksbank Elementary in Grade 2/3 I implemented many lessons on Australian Culture, using ICT and a Maths unit on money aligned with the British Columbian Curriculum. I led the gym (P.E) sessions by implementing a sequence of dance lessons. I engaged in all aspects of the teaching profession attending staff meetings, parent teacher conferences and planning sessions. Taking part in this program was a great experience to reflect and contrast upon the the similarities and differences between the Canadian schooling system and the Australian system.
